HOW IT WORKS
The "Super Charged" Concept
We provide the perfect balance of independence and security. Participants drive fully-equipped 4x4s, sharing the journey with a curated group, while we manage the logistics, route, and safety.
THE EXPLORATIONS DIFFERENCE
Highly Personalised.
Owner Hosted.
At Explorations, we don't mass-produce tours. Run entirely by owners Stew and Kirst Nolan, we execute only a handful of exclusive trips each year. We don't just send your clients on a trip; we host them.
For your clients, who value independence but appreciate local expertise, this means an unmatched level of care and authentic connection. For you, it means partnering with a reliable on-the-ground operator who takes personal responsibility for every detail.

01.
THE CORE CONCEPT :
Guided Independence
We've bridged the gap between a lonely self drive, and a passive bus tour!
The Hook :
Total freedom of the road with the "invisible safety net" of an experienced guide.
Active Participation :
Clients aren't just passengers; they are explorers. They drive, they navigate (with our guidance), and they engage with the landscape.
The Simplicity :
We take care of all the logistics and bookings. And we personally host each group. Clients pay one price, fly in, embark on the journey of a lifetime and fly out.

02.
THE EXPERIENCE STYLE :
Hosted, Not Managed
The biggest fear for Travel Designers is "Will my client be told what to do all day?" The answer is No.
Living The Adventure :
We provide the "What" and the "Where," but the client owns the "How."
The Support Vehicle :
The support vehicle stays ahead to lead the group or falls behind to provide a "sweep" for safety.
The Flex :
If a couple wants to linger at a waterhole for two hours, they can. They have the radio; they know where the next camp is. They aren't tethered to a group schedule, but they are never truly alone.

03.
THE ACCOMMODATION SANDWICH :
The Wild-Luxury Hybrid
We believe in the Luxury Reset. We start with a high-end pillow and end with one.
The Bookends :
Every trip starts and ends at a 4 or 5-star hotel/lodge. This ensures clients arrive refreshed and depart pampered.
The Rhythm :
We don’t camp for 10 days straight. We strategically break up the bush nights with stays in lodges, chalets, or boutique hotels to allow for a proper bed, laundry, and a night off from cooking.
The Campsites :
We choose campsites carefully — places that connect campers to the wild, far from the "caravan park" crowds.

04.
CATERING :
Masterchef Of The Bush
Catering on a Super Charged Road Trip is an activity, not just a meal.
The Pre-game :
Before arrival, we provide "Camp Cooking 101" guides and curated shopping lists.
The Provisioning :
We guide the group through the first big "Stock Up" at the start. We know the best butchers, bottle stores and supermarkets in town!
The Social Secret :
Cooking over a fire is where the camaraderie happens. And our famous "Pop-up Gin Bars" at sunset are legendary.

05.
THE HARDWARE :
Vehicles & Equipment
This is the Super Charged part of the trip. We use industry-leading rigs (partners like Bushlore, ASCO and Namibia2Go).
Toyota Hilux Double Cab 4x4 Camper :
Automatic transmission with 2x rooftop tents complete with bedding and towels. Equipped with a fridge/freezer, dual battery system and everything you need for life in the bush!
Safety Gear :
Every car is equipped with a 2-way radio for constant contact and the support vehicle has full recovery gear, first aid kit, basic tools and a satellite phone.
The "No Experience" Guarantee :
We teach participants how to use the 4x4 on Day 1. It’s easier than they think!

06.
SAFETY IS A PRIORITY :
AFRICAN TRAVEL & ENCOUNTERING WILDLIFE
We take safety very seriously - that's the point of traveling in a group.
The Daily Brief
Where necessary, the morning starts with a "Tailgate Talk." We explain the road conditions, the wildlife to watch for, and the "wildness" level of the next campsite.
Wildlife Protocol :
Participants learn to read the bush. They are in their own vehicle, but they have expert guides on hand, ready to explain elephant behaviour or to point out the tracks of a lion.
Group Safety :
If there is a puncture, or a sandy track gets tricky, there is always a vehicle nearby. No stress, just a story to tell later!

IT REALLY IS THAT EASY!
WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM A TRADITIONAL SAFARI
The "Deep Africa" Benefit
Fly-in safaris are amazing! But on a road trip, you see the villages, experience the cultures, feel the changing geology and see the little known areas of a country.
The Satisfaction Factor
There is a profound sense of achievement in driving yourself across the Namib Desert or from one camp to another in the thick sands of the Chobe Game Reserve.
The Camaraderie of A Road Trip
Navigating the dusty roads of Africa with a group of like-minded travellers, and gathering in the evening for a drink and to share stories around the fire is priceless.
